About Matside Sports
Matside Sports began as a training group in Seymour in 1998. For over 10 years training was held at Gambrel's Martial Arts. In 2009 the opportunity to open a MMA and wrestling facility presented itself. Matside is now a complete training facility and a competition team. Our athletes compete in MMA, USA Wrestling, and submission grappling events.
Early Years
The beginning of Matside Sports starts in Seymour and travels all over the country, and even to other countries. In 1998 two individuals started training with Greg Lucas in Bedford, Indiana. Needing more mat time, a training group was formed in Seymour. In 1999 the first Blue Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu was awarded to the training group, quickly followed by the second Blue Belt. In 2001 four guys started fighting in the Ruffman competitions as The Horsemen. In the years to follow, the group trained with every instructor available traveling to seminars and training camps around the world.
